Catheterisation Training Course

This is a face to face course that covers the entire process of catheterisation. This includes male and female catheterisation, basic anatomy and physiology, indications, safe procedures, etc.

In the UK approximately 90000 people live with long term urinary catheters. Although is a common procedure it carries significant risks if not performed appropriately.

The course is suitable to any staff working in healthcare who are required to perform catheterisation as part of their job role*.

The course combines theory and practical sessions. Course delivered by NHS clinicians.

  • Definitions and methods of catheterisation
  • Understand the advantages and risks of urethral catheterisation
  • Indications & Contraindications for urethral catheterisation
  • Catheter types and uses
  • Basic Anatomy and physiology male and female
  • Infection Control – Sterile technique
  • Daily care of catheter including record keeping
  • Male and female catheterisation procedure (theory and practical session)
  • Ethical and legal responsibilities including consent, privacy and dignity
  • Practical Workstations

Candidates who attend the session and successfully complete the course will be issued a certificate of attendance.
